Kathmandu, 28 July | Ecosphere News
Following recent incidents of attacks on doctors and health workers, Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population has urged all hospitals across the country to ensure that health services are not disrupted under any circumstances. The ministry stated that the process of bringing those responsible for the incidents under the ambit of the law is ongoing and called for uninterrupted continuation of treatment services.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Joint Spokesperson Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari said the ministry has taken serious note of the recent cases of assault and mistreatment involving doctors, health workers, and health institutions.According to the ministry, the concerned authorities are carrying out the necessary procedures to identify those involved and initiate legal action against them. The statement emphasised that ensuring the safety and dignity of health professionals remains a government priority.

The ministry’s appeal comes in the wake of an attack on a doctor at Narayani Hospital. Following the incident, Minister for Health and Population Nisha Mehta arranged for the injured physician, Dr. Pramod Ram, to be transferred to Kathmandu for further treatment. The minister also visited the National Trauma Centre to inquire about his health condition.

Minister Mehta has directed security agencies to take strict action against those responsible and stated that necessary coordination and initiatives are being undertaken to prevent any disruption to healthcare services.

The ministry reiterated that healthcare is an essential, life-saving, and highly sensitive service, and that citizens’ access to medical treatment must not be obstructed under any circumstances. The statement also noted that health workers have the right to provide services in a safe and respectful working environment.

The government has appealed to all hospitals, health institutions, and concerned stakeholders to cooperate in ensuring the continuous delivery of healthcare services without hindering patient treatment.
