Severe Windstorm and Continuous Rain Damage Dozens of Houses in Tanahun; Electricity and Transportation Services Disrupted

Tanahun, Nepal - Severe windstorms accompanied by continuous rainfall have caused widespread physical damage across the district headquarters, Damauli, and several other parts of Tanahun, disrupting normal life and damaging dozens of homes.
According to Chief District Officer Shivlal Tiwari, although significant damage to physical infrastructure has been reported across the district, no human casualties had been confirmed at the time of reporting. Authorities stated that detailed damage assessment and documentation are still underway while rescue and clearance operations continue in coordination with security agencies and local governments.
The storm, which struck at approximately 4:00 PM on Monday, severely affected Byas Municipality-2 in Damauli, where the roof structure (truss) of Apex Mall was blown away. Eyewitnesses reported that the detached roof fell onto surrounding areas, causing major damage to nearly a dozen nearby houses.
In another incident at Galbubesi of Byas Municipality-1, a large peepal tree collapsed during the storm and damaged the residence of local resident Kamala Gurung.
Electricity supply has also been interrupted in multiple locations across the district. According to officials from the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Tanahun Distribution Centre, the storm caused extensive damage to transmission infrastructure. Fallen trees reportedly snapped power lines, while several main electricity poles collapsed in areas including Guddikhola, Galbubesi and Ghasikuwa. Technical teams have been mobilized for restoration work; however, due to the scale of damage, full restoration may require two to four days.
Transportation has also been affected along sections of the Prithvi Highway, particularly around Ghasikuwa, where fallen trees temporarily caused one-sided road obstruction. Rain-triggered landslides further deposited rocks and mud on road sections, creating difficulties for vehicle movement.
Additionally, flooding in the Buldi Khola reportedly swept away a tractor in the area connecting Wards 11 and 12 of Byas Municipality, adding to the impact of the severe weather event.
Local authorities have urged residents to remain cautious during unstable weather conditions and follow official advisories while recovery operations continue.
