Weather System Brings Possibility of Rain and Thunderstorms Across Nepal

Kathmandu, May 12: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast partly to generally cloudy conditions across several parts of Nepal, with chances of rainfall, thunderstorms, and snowfall in mountainous regions due to the combined influence of westerly winds, local winds, and low-pressure systems affecting the country.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the weather pattern is being influenced by a low-pressure area in the lower atmosphere near eastern Nepal, along with a low-pressure trough in the upper atmosphere over the central and eastern regions of the country.
The Division stated that Koshi Province and the hilly and mountainous areas of other provinces are expected to remain generally cloudy during the day, while the Terai region is likely to experience partly cloudy weather.
There is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in some hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. Similar weather conditions may also occur in a few other hilly regions and at isolated places in the Terai belt. Higher elevation areas may witness light snowfall.
For tonight, the Department has predicted generally cloudy conditions in the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, while the rest of the country is expected to remain partly cloudy.
Meteorologists have advised the public, particularly those travelling through hilly and mountainous areas, to remain alert due to the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and localized rainfall that may affect daily life, transportation, and outdoor activities.
The weather office continues to monitor the developing systems and has urged citizens to follow official forecasts and safety advisories.
