Severe Weather Alert Issued Across Nepal as Heavy Rain, Snowfall, and Strong Winds Forecast

Kathmandu, Nepal - The Ministry of Home Affairs Nepal has issued a nationwide alert warning of adverse weather conditions expected on Friday (Chaitra 6) and Saturday (Chaitra 7). According to the notice, various parts of the country are likely to experience heavy rainfall, snowfall in higher elevations, and strong winds, posing potential risks to public safety and infrastructure.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel during this period, particularly in areas vulnerable to landslides, flooding, and weather-related disruptions. Citizens are advised to remain indoors as much as possible and ensure that doors and windows are securely closed during strong winds.
The ministry has also stressed the importance of turning off fire sources and exercising caution while driving. Motorists caught in severe weather are advised to halt their vehicles and seek safe shelter until conditions improve. In crowded places, individuals are encouraged to remain calm and move steadily toward safer locations without panic.
Special caution has been advised against staying near weak or temporary structures, tall trees, and utility infrastructure such as telephone and electricity poles. The public has been warned not to touch fallen or hanging electrical wires and to avoid using electrical appliances during severe wind activity to reduce the risk of accidents.
This advisory comes amid increasing concerns over extreme and unpredictable weather patterns, which have been affecting Nepal more frequently in recent years. Officials have called for heightened awareness and preparedness to minimize potential harm.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have urged citizens to stay updated through official channels.
