Iran Says 1,255 Killed in US-Israeli Attacks, Majority Reported as Civilians

Kathmandu/Tehran - Iranian authorities say that at least 1,255 people have been killed and more than 12,000 injured during the first nine days of military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel across the country, with officials claiming that most of the victims are civilians.
According to Iran’s Deputy Health Minister Ali Jafarian, the casualties include people ranging in age from eight months to 88 years, reflecting the widespread impact of the attacks on civilian populations. Iranian officials also reported that dozens of hospitals and healthcare facilities have been damaged or affected during the bombardment.
The conflict began in late February when the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes targeting what they described as Iranian military and strategic facilities. Since then, the situation has escalated rapidly, with continued airstrikes across several Iranian cities and retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Iran against Israeli and U.S.-linked targets in the region.
Iran’s representatives at the United Nations have previously warned that the war has caused significant civilian casualties, including hundreds of women and children, and extensive damage to infrastructure such as schools, residential areas, and public services.
One of the most controversial incidents during the conflict was an airstrike on a girls’ school in Minab on the first day of the attacks, which Iranian sources say killed more than 160 people, many of them schoolchildren, intensifying international concern about civilian safety in the war zone.
The escalating conflict has raised alarm globally, with several governments and international organizations calling for immediate de-escalation and diplomatic dialogue to prevent a wider regional war. Rising oil prices, regional evacuations, and attacks across the Gulf have also underscored the broader geopolitical and economic consequences of the crisis.
As the war continues, humanitarian agencies warn that the civilian toll could rise further if hostilities persist and access to medical and emergency services remains disrupted.
