Dhading, Nepal: At least 17 people have died after a passenger bus traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu met with a serious accident along the Prithvi Highway on Monday morning.
According to preliminary information, the bus bearing registration number Ga 2 Kha 1421 veered off the road near Charaundi in Ward-7 of Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality and plunged down toward the bank of the Trishuli River.
Local residents, police personnel, and rescue teams quickly rushed to the site to carry out rescue operations. Authorities confirmed that 17 people lost their lives in the incident, while efforts were underway to rescue injured passengers and retrieve the bus from the riverbank area.
The accident occurred along a section of the highway that connects major cities including Pokhara and Kathmandu, one of the busiest road corridors in the country. Officials are investigating the cause of the crash, including possible road conditions, vehicle control, and other contributing factors.
Further details about the victims and injured passengers are expected to be released as rescue and identification processes continue.
