Kathmandu, Feb 21: The Nepal Electricity Authority has announced scheduled electricity outages in several parts of Kathmandu on Saturday as maintenance and infrastructure improvement works are carried out in the capital’s distribution network.
According to the authority, areas under the Baneshwor Distribution Center will experience temporary power cuts due to repair work on a tilted utility pole located in front of Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology. To safely complete the repair, the 11 kV transmission line will be shut down.
Electricity supply will remain disrupted from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM in Tilganga, Prakash Sanyas Ashram, Sambhu Marg, Gaushala and nearby airport areas. Similarly, power will be cut from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM in Tinkune, Gairigaun, Sinamangal and surrounding airport zones.
The authority has apologized to consumers for the inconvenience caused by the planned outage and stated that such measures are necessary to ensure safety and maintain reliable service.
Meanwhile, additional outages have been scheduled under the Maharajgunj Distribution Center as part of the ongoing Kathmandu Valley Central and Northern Distribution System Strengthening Project. The project is currently carrying out underground distribution system works aimed at improving long-term electricity reliability in the capital.
As part of the work, electricity will be cut from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM in areas including Baluwatar, Shivapuri School, Pandol Marg and locations around the Prime Minister’s residence. Other affected locations include Hepali Height, Chyasingdol, Deurali Janata, Bhagwati Temple and Dhapasi.
Likewise, areas such as Banshidhar Marg, Chandal, Bishalnagar, Central Apartment and Tundaldevi Temple will experience outages from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, the authority said.
Energy officials say the maintenance and system upgrades are part of broader efforts to modernize Kathmandu’s electricity distribution infrastructure and improve the reliability and safety of power supply in the rapidly growing urban area.
