A sister-city relationship has been formally established between Broomfield City, Colorado, United States, and Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Nepal, marking a new chapter in international municipal cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement was signed on Monday by Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan and Broomfield City Mayor Guylin Kastrivita during a ceremony held at the Broomfield City Council Chambers. The partnership aims to promote cultural, artistic, and technological exchange, while strengthening mutual cooperation and collaboration between the two cities.
Speaking on the occasion, Broomfield Mayor Guylin Kastrivita expressed her happiness over the establishment of the sister-city relationship. She stated that the partnership goes beyond linking the two cities, emphasizing that it also strengthens ties between Nepal and the United States.
Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan thanked the Broomfield city leadership for initiating the partnership. He highlighted that Broomfield is the third city to establish a sister-city relationship with Lalitpur. According to Mayor Maharjan, Lalitpur had earlier formed similar partnerships with Cheorwon in South Korea and Ulaan-Ude in Russia.
The program was attended by officials from Broomfield City, elected representatives of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, and other distinguished participants. At the beginning of the event, a documentary showcasing Lalitpur Metropolitan City’s profile, heritage, and development status was screened.
With this agreement, Broomfield City has now established sister-city relationships with two cities worldwide, the first being Ueda City of Japan. Likewise, Lalitpur Metropolitan City now maintains sister-city relations with three international cities, including Broomfield.
Following the signing ceremony, the mayors of both cities exchanged city flags and gifts, symbolizing friendship, cooperation, and long-term partnership.
The sister-city agreement is expected to create opportunities for people-to-people connections, knowledge sharing, and collaborative initiatives in areas such as culture, education, technology, and local governance.
