Kathmandu, Nepal - Everest Alliance Nepal has officially announced that it will organize the Everest Summiteers Summit 2026 in Kathmandu on May 27, 2026, under the theme “Himalayan Innovation for a Sustainable Future.” The summit will be held on the occasion of International Everest Day and aims to elevate conversations on sustainable Himalayan development, climber safety, climate resilience, and ethical mountain tourism.
The event will honor the historic first ascent of Mount Everest achieved by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary, reflecting on the mountain’s enduring legacy while focusing on future challenges and opportunities.
Second Edition Builds on Historic First Summit
Everest Alliance Nepal convened a press briefing in Kathmandu on Sunday to announce the second edition of the summit. The organizers emphasized that the success of the first Everest Summiteers Summit, held in 2025 under the theme “Honoring the Legends, Inspiring the Future,” has laid a strong foundation for the upcoming event. That inaugural summit was widely acknowledged as a milestone in Nepal’s mountaineering calendar - bringing together international climbers, government representatives, conservationists, tourism stakeholders, and global media to engage in high-level policy dialogue and collaboration.
High-Level Dialogue on Crucial Himalayan Issues
The one-day summit will feature keynote speeches, expert panels, and policy dialogues that address urgent challenges facing high mountain regions. Key topics slated for discussion include:
Climate change and glacial retreat
Waste and environmental management
Climber welfare and expedition safety
Policy reforms for sustainable mountain tourism
Organizers also plan to reaffirm the global significance of Mount Everest as shared world heritage that requires collective protection.
Inclusive Participation and Global Collaboration
Representatives from Nepal and around the world - including Everest climbers, researchers, policymakers, conservation advocates, tourism professionals, and international partners - will gather to share insights, experiences, and strategies for sustainable Himalayan futures. Summit sessions will be led by seasoned mountaineers, institutional leaders, and subject matter experts.
According to Everest Alliance Nepal, the 2026 summit is envisioned as more than a commemorative event. It is designed to celebrate the legacy of Everest adventurers, preserve firsthand climbing narratives, foster international cooperation, and advance ethical, community-centered mountain tourism.
Call for Participation
Everest Alliance Nepal has opened official registrations for global participants, including climbers and enthusiasts, to join the summit. The organization has also appealed to government bodies, international institutions, mountaineering federations, academic organizations, sponsors, and media to support and participate in realizing the summit as a world-class historical event.
