UNEP Strengthens Global Climate Action Amid Escalating Emergency

Kathmandu, August 29, 2025 - As the world faces intensifying climate impacts, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing solutions that can help nations and communities adapt to the escalating crisis while accelerating the shift towards sustainable, low-carbon development.

Highlighting the urgency of collective action, UNEP underscored its four-pronged approach: providing science-based solutions to policymakers, supporting countries in transitioning to low-carbon economies, empowering vulnerable communities to adapt, and unlocking climate finance to scale impact where it is needed most.

“Science is clear - we are in a climate emergency. But hope lies in our ability to act together,” UNEP stated, calling on governments, businesses, and civil society to align efforts with global climate goals.

Recent global climate reports show rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and ecosystem stress, placing millions at risk. UNEP emphasized that climate finance remains a critical enabler, ensuring developing countries can access resources to build resilience and implement green transitions.

Climate advocates have welcomed UNEP’s continued leadership, noting that partnerships at global, national, and community levels are essential to achieve real progress. The agency’s ongoing work aims to build a greener, safer, and more inclusive future for all.

UNEP has encouraged citizens and institutions worldwide to take concrete steps toward climate action, stressing that solutions exist and momentum is building.
