Kathmandu, August 6, 2025 - Reinforcing its leadership in climate resilience and international cooperation, Nepal convened a high-level stakeholder meeting in Kathmandu today to take stock of its progress in implementing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. The event was also aligned with the principles of the Sagarmatha Call for Action, Nepal’s global climate diplomacy initiative introduced during its chairmanship of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group.
Held under the theme “Stocktaking Progress: Implementation of NDCs & the Secretary-General’s and Sagarmatha Call for Action”, the dialogue brought together senior government officials, international development partners, environmental experts, and civil society actors to evaluate the country's climate commitments and discuss pathways for accelerated implementation.
The meeting emphasized transparency, accountability, and multisectoral collaboration in addressing climate risks. Stakeholders explored Nepal’s ongoing efforts in renewable energy expansion, forest conservation, and climate-resilient agriculture, while also highlighting the critical need for climate finance and capacity building.
“The Sagarmatha Call for Action continues to inspire Nepal’s voice on the global stage,” stated a government representative. “It reminds us that climate action is not optional—it is urgent and unavoidable, especially for vulnerable mountain nations like ours.”
Named after the world’s highest peak, Sagarmatha (Mount Everest), the Call for Action underlines the moral responsibility of the international community to safeguard fragile ecosystems and frontline communities. Today’s meeting served as a domestic affirmation of that global appeal, reinforcing the alignment between national strategies and international climate objectives.
As the impacts of climate change become increasingly evident across Nepal’s hills, valleys, and glaciers, the convergence of NDC implementation and the Sagarmatha Call for Action represents a bold step forward in Nepal’s climate leadership.
