Kathmandu, July 25 — A powerful message of unity, inclusion, and transformative leadership marked the opening session of the National Dialogue: Bridging Commitment to Change, organized to advance gender equality and empower women across Nepal’s public and policy spheres.
Hon’ble Nawal Kishore Sah Sudi, Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, set the tone with a rousing keynote that underscored the need for actionable change. “The collective voice of women leaders must shape our national agenda,” he stated, emphasizing that progress requires more than promises — it demands purpose-driven implementation.
In a show of international solidarity, Mr. Sriram Haridass, Acting Representative of UNFPA Nepal, echoed this sentiment, calling for the translation of protective laws into everyday realities for Nepali women. “At UNFPA, we work to ensure that every law protecting women’s rights is more than ink on paper. Because real change happens with the beating hearts of our public service, with senior women leaders,” he remarked.
Ms. Laxmi Basnet, Secretary at the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens (MoWCSC), highlighted the transformative role of women in governance and beyond. “Women are not just breaking barriers — they are building new pathways,” she affirmed.
The event, which gathered senior policymakers, development partners, civil society actors, and women leaders from across sectors, marked a significant step in advancing Nepal’s commitment to gender equality under the Sustainable Development Goals and the country’s own constitutional mandates.
Organizers say this dialogue is only the beginning. The coming sessions will dive deeper into policy frameworks, lived experiences, and institutional reforms necessary to ensure women’s leadership is not just visible but valued.
As Nepal continues to grapple with challenges around equity, inclusion, and representation, initiatives like this dialogue offer a hopeful signal: that meaningful change is possible when voices are heard, leadership is diverse, and commitments are backed with action.
