Nepal marked a significant step forward in its journey toward responsible and sustainable business practices with the successful organization of the “Learning Sharing Event: Advancing Business and Human Rights Initiative in Nepal” on July 11 at the Marriott Hotel, Kathmandu. The event was jointly organized by UNDP Nepal, in close collaboration with the Government of Nepal, the Embassy of Japan, the Embassy of Switzerland, and other key development partners.
Bringing together government officials, civil society actors, private sector representatives, and international partners, the event provided a timely platform to assess progress achieved through the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) on Business and Human Rights (B+HR). The NAP, supported by JSB (Japan Supplementary Budget) funding, has been instrumental in embedding human rights principles into Nepal’s business landscape.
Participants actively discussed the achievements, challenges, and future direction of the B+HR initiative. The event reaffirmed a collective commitment to fostering an inclusive, rights-based economic development model in Nepal. Stakeholders agreed on the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration to ensure that businesses operate responsibly, respect human rights, and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.
The participation of life members of organizations like the Nepal-Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NSCCI) further demonstrated the growing momentum among Nepal’s private sector toward adopting international human rights standards and aligning business practices with national and global sustainability goals.
As Nepal continues to engage in international partnerships and policy reforms, the Business and Human Rights agenda is poised to become a cornerstone of inclusive and equitable economic growth across the country.
