Kathmandu, Nepal – May 26, 2025
The South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE) is celebrating its 25th anniversary with an international conference set to take place from December 12 to 14, 2025, at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) headquarters in Kathmandu.
This flagship event, titled "International Conference on Development and Environmental Economics: SANDEE@25," will bring together scholars, researchers, and policymakers from across the globe to discuss pressing issues at the intersection of development, environment, and mountains. The conference aims to address critical challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, inequality, and socio-economic dynamics in South Asia and the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region.
The conference will feature keynote speeches by prominent figures in the field:
Sir Partha Dasgupta, SANDEE co-founder and Frank Ramsey Professor Emeritus of Economics, University of Cambridge.
Ruth Meinzen-Dick, Research Fellow Emeritus, International Food Policy Research Institute.
Adil Najam, President of WWF International and Dean Emeritus of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, Boston University.
SANDEE has spent the past 25 years cultivating talent and driving innovation in development and environmental economics across South Asia. The upcoming conference underscores the urgency of SANDEE’s mission to tackle the region's environmental and developmental challenges through rigorous research and collaboration.
Researchers, academics, and policymakers are invited to submit papers and panel session proposals for the conference. Submissions can be made through SANDEE’s official webpage. The deadline for submissions is May 31, 2025, at 23:59 GMT +5:45.
