Nuwakot, Nepal – Farmers in Chaughada, Baniyatar, have achieved a milestone in sustainable agriculture by producing pesticide-free, healthy watermelons. This initiative, supported by Shri Indrayani Secondary School’s technical stream (Agricultural Science), has brought a significant shift toward environmentally friendly farming practices in the region.
The program was carried out under the guidance of agricultural science teachers and students, who provided hands-on technical assistance. Financial support from Panchakanya Rural Municipality Office, Lakuribhanjyang, and the local Ward Office enabled farmers to overcome challenges posed by adverse weather conditions. Despite these challenges, the community successfully cultivated pure, sweet, and juicy watermelons.
To ensure the quality of the produce, the school’s technical team conducted regular on-site monitoring. Their collaborative efforts have empowered local farmers to manage their own markets for sales, promoting self-reliance and community-based economic growth.
Local authorities and stakeholders have called on the public to support the farmers by helping with production and sales management. This support is crucial for boosting the morale of farmers and encouraging sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
For those interested in further information or engaging with the initiative, farmers in Baniyatar, Simara, Kalche, Mahankal, and Athbise are available for consultations and collaboration.
This success story exemplifies how technical education and community collaboration can drive progress in sustainable agriculture, setting an example for other regions across Nepal.
