Kathmandu, May 1, 2025 – A groundbreaking two-day Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Climate Change, titled "Charting a Strategic Climate Voice for Nepal," is currently underway in Kathmandu. The program, which began today, was inaugurated by the Vice President of Nepal, Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav. This significant event brings together policymakers, academics, private sector representatives, and climate experts to address Nepal's pressing climate challenges and define its role in global climate advocacy.
Speaking at the inauguration, Vice President Yadav highlighted the urgency of collective action. "As a nation highly vulnerable to climate change, Nepal must lead with innovative, equitable, and sustainable strategies. This dialogue is a vital step toward uniting diverse perspectives for a stronger climate response," he said.
The program, organized by the Institute for Strategic and Socioeconomic Research (ISSR), is focusing on four critical themes:
Climate Justice: Ensuring fairness in climate policies while safeguarding the rights of vulnerable communities and promoting intergenerational equity.
Climate Financing: Exploring sustainable funding solutions through public-private partnerships to support climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.
Carbon Trading: Identifying opportunities for Nepal to engage in global carbon markets while benefiting from emission reduction mechanisms.
Carbon Neutrality: Strategizing pathways to achieve a balance between emissions and natural absorption through reforestation and clean energy initiatives.
The discussions are aimed at formulating actionable strategies to address institutional bottlenecks, enhance Nepal’s policy framework, and position the country as a global advocate for equitable climate solutions.
The dialogue will conclude tomorrow, May 2, with a comprehensive roadmap expected to emerge, setting Nepal on a course toward sustainable development and climate resilience.
