A 72-year-old woman was tragically killed by a tiger in Basantpur, Ward No. 5 of Manahari Rural Municipality, Makwanpur. The incident occurred on Sunday evening when Kanchhi Maya Rumba was cutting grass in a field near her home.

According to Ward Chairperson Dipendra Adhikari, who visited the site, the elderly woman was attacked and killed on the spot. When she failed to return home, locals initiated a search and spotted a tiger carrying her body. Despite efforts to chase the tiger away into the jungle, Rumba’s body was found severely mutilated at the scene.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of human-wildlife conflict in the region, where settlements often border forested areas inhabited by tigers and other wildlife. Chairperson Adhikari expressed concern about the safety of local residents and called for immediate measures to address the issue.

Efforts are underway to investigate the incident and implement precautionary steps to prevent similar tragedies. Local authorities and wildlife conservation experts have been urged to collaborate on strategies to mitigate the growing risk of wildlife encroachment into human settlements.
