First National Bamboo Conference-2025: Pioneering a Green Economy in Nepal

Diktel, Khotang – The First National Bamboo Conference-2025, scheduled to take place from February 27 to March 1 in Diktel, Khotang, aims to establish bamboo as a cornerstone of Nepal’s green economy. The event, organized collaboratively by the Ministry of Forests and Environment (MoFE), the Forest Research and Training Centre (FRTC), and Green Bamboo Creation Pvt. Ltd., will focus on raising awareness, promoting sustainable bamboo cultivation, and mobilizing its economic potential.IMG_20241222_144402-1734870227.jpg

Under the theme "Bamboo: Growing Green Economy, Sustaining Our Future," the conference will bring together stakeholders from diverse sectors to explore bamboo's multifaceted applications for ecological and economic growth.

Leadership and Coordination:

Chairperson: Ganesh Shah, Former Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology.

Members: Tirtharaj Bhattarai, Mayor of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, and Dr. Rajendra KC, Director General of FRTC, Babarmahal, Kathmandu.

Key Highlights:

Workshops and Expert Presentations: International and national experts will share insights on bamboo’s cultivation, commercialization, and role in ecological restoration.

Policy Discussions: Interactive sessions with policymakers and researchers will address frameworks for sustainable bamboo usage.

Networking and Exhibitions: Over 200 participants, including entrepreneurs, policymakers, and researchers, will have opportunities to network and explore locally made bamboo products.

Key Issues to Be Addressed:

1. Identifying opportunities for bamboo-based products to strengthen Nepal’s green economy.

2. Promoting sustainable cultivation, commercialization, and market expansion for bamboo.

3. Discussing the role of bamboo in soil conservation, climate resilience, and biodiversity restoration.

4. Supporting policies to advance bamboo’s contribution to Nepal’s socio-economic prosperity.

5. Establishing research centers to explore bamboo’s potential as an alternative income source.

Mission and Vision:

The conference seeks to promote bamboo as a vital economic resource, creating employment opportunities while contributing to Nepal’s ecological balance and climate resilience.
