Kathmandu, June 13 - Five personnel of the Indian Air Force (IAF) lost their lives after an AN-32 military transport aircraft crashed while attempting to land at the Jorhat Air Force Station in the northeastern Indian state of Assam on Saturday.
According to Indian media reports and official statements, six people were on board the aircraft at the time of the accident. One crew member, identified as the co-pilot, was rescued alive and is currently receiving medical treatment. His condition is reported to be critical. The remaining five personnel succumbed to their injuries.
The aircraft was reportedly conducting a routine sortie when the accident occurred during the landing phase. Emergency response teams rushed to the crash site and initiated rescue and recovery operations immediately after the incident. Indian Air Force authorities have expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured all possible support during this difficult time.
Following the crash, the Indian Air Force ordered a formal inquiry to determine the cause of the accident. Preliminary details suggest that the aircraft involved was an AN-32 transport plane, a key component of the IAF’s logistics fleet used for transporting personnel, equipment, and supplies, particularly in remote and mountainous regions.
The incident marks one of the deadliest military aviation accidents in India this year and has raised concerns over flight safety and operational risks associated with military aviation activities.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, and further details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
