Kathmandu, Nepal - Divyajyoti Hydropower Limited has achieved financial closure for the construction of the 50 MW Marsyangdi Besi Hydropower Project, marking a significant step forward in Nepal’s hydropower and energy infrastructure development.
According to the company, the project is being developed along the Marsyangdi River in Tanahun district of Gandaki Province, covering areas of Bandipur Municipality and Myagde Rural Municipality. The financing agreement was formally signed during a program held in Kathmandu in the presence of representatives from the company and participating financial institutions.
The total estimated cost of the project stands at approximately NPR 11.30 billion. Out of the total investment, NPR 7.50 billion will be managed through consortium financing led by Citizens Bank International Limited, while the remaining NPR 3.80 billion will be invested through the company’s equity participation.
Divyajyoti Hydropower stated that although the official construction timeline of the project is four years, the company is working with a target to complete construction within the next 30 months. Once completed, the electricity generated by the project will be connected to the national transmission system through the Nepal Electricity Authority’s 132 kV Udipur Substation, located around eight kilometers from the project’s powerhouse.
The company had previously signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Nepal Electricity Authority in 2074 B.S. and obtained its electricity generation license from the Department of Electricity Development under the Ministry of Energy in 2075 B.S.
The project is expected to contribute to Nepal’s growing renewable energy capacity and support the country’s broader goals of energy security, domestic power generation, and sustainable economic development.
