Kathmandu, Nepal - Nepal exported electricity worth NPR 5.92 billion during Asoj (mid-September to mid-October 2026), highlighting the growing importance of electricity exports to the country’s economy and regional energy cooperation.
The resumption of electricity sales to Bangladesh marks a positive development in Nepal’s efforts to expand cross-border electricity trade and strengthen regional energy partnerships.
Nepal aims to maximize the use of domestically generated electricity, expand its access to international energy markets, and increase the contribution of power exports to the national economy. Strengthening energy trade and improving the competitiveness of the country’s energy sector remain key priorities.
With its hydropower potential, Nepal has opportunities to strengthen its position in the regional electricity market. Sustained progress will depend on reliable power generation, adequate cross-border transmission infrastructure, and effective cooperation with neighboring countries.
Expanding electricity exports could help Nepal generate revenue, support economic growth, and advance its ambition of building a more self-reliant and competitive energy sector.
