Lalitpur, Nepal: A new poetry collection titled “The Touch of Tamor in the Waves of the Thames” by UK-based Nepali writer Shanti Limbu was officially released during a literary event organized in Patan, Lalitpur by Oyam Sarokar Samaj.
The collection was jointly unveiled by senior litterateur Khagendra Sangraula and other literary figures amid discussions on migration, cultural identity, women’s experiences, and social consciousness reflected in the poems.
Speaking at the event, Sangraula noted that the poetry collection captures the emotional realities of being forced to leave one’s homeland, the struggles and reflections of migrant life, the roots of human existence, and the awakening of women’s consciousness. He described the work as socially relevant and emotionally grounded.
Film director and poet Nabin Limbu highlighted that the collection carries Yakthung consciousness along with themes of coexistence, completeness, and collective identity. He also pointed out that the poems strongly engage with feminist perspectives and contemporary social realities.
Poet Bimala Tumkhewa stated that women’s voices and experiences are increasingly becoming central within global literary discourse. She added that literature can play an important role in exposing social problems and encouraging reforms necessary for building a more just and inclusive society.
During the review session, literary reviewer Gurung Sushant described the poetry collection as an intellectual and cultural document shaped by memory, language, identity, and consciousness. According to him, the book also reflects the growing concerns surrounding the crisis of Nepali cultural existence and human civilization in a rapidly changing world.
Author Shanti Limbu shared that writing the collection was deeply connected to her personal emotions, experiences, and observations accumulated over time. She expressed that continuing to move forward despite life’s challenges remains an important part of human existence.
Published by Ratna Pustak Bhandar, the poetry collection presents themes related to women, nature, homeland, migration, and emotional connections between Nepal and the diaspora experience abroad.
