Kathmandu - A literary discussion program on A-Widow, a collection of long stories by noted writer Govinda Giri Prerana, was held in Kathmandu on Sunday, bringing together literary scholars, critics, and readers for an in-depth conversation on contemporary Nepali storytelling.
During the event, reviewer Dr. Gyanu Adhikari presented a reader’s perspective on the book and highlighted the challenges associated with both writing and reading long stories. She noted that the stories in the collection strongly reflect psychological and philosophical dimensions of human life. According to her, the narratives portray individuals struggling with inner dissatisfaction and emotional complexities.
Dr. Adhikari observed that many male characters in the stories are portrayed as emotionally attached to women, while at the same time the work also presents male sensitivity and emotional depth.
Another reviewer, Dr. Ashok Thapa, stated that the collection raises numerous subjects worthy of serious literary discussion. He said the stories contain profound psychological insights, deep perspectives, and philosophical conflicts, adding that despite their length, the stories remain engaging and readable.
Speaking as the chief guest, Prof. Dr. Dayaram Shrestha discussed the structural discipline required in long-story writing. He remarked that a long story demands a coherent literary system and emphasized that such a structure should remain intact throughout the narrative.
Writer Shree Om Shrestha ‘Rodan’ reflected on Govinda Giri Prerana’s nearly five-decade-long contribution to story writing and discussed his literary journey and narrative craftsmanship.
Author Govinda Giri Prerana shared that long-story writing has always interested him and stated that he still considers himself a learner. He said his passion for learning and literary exploration continues even today.
Writer Yadav Bhattarai also expressed his views during the discussion program.
The book A-Widow, published by Imprint Publishers, contains seven long stories and has drawn attention for its exploration of psychology, philosophy, and human emotions in Nepali literature.
