Chitwan - A car caught fire near Tuin Khola along the Mugling Road corridor after a stone reportedly struck the vehicle’s petrol tank, according to preliminary information provided by police.
The incident occurred on a rain-soaked section of the highway, where falling rocks and landslide-related risks continue to threaten travelers during adverse weather conditions. The vehicle was quickly engulfed in flames, producing thick black smoke visible from a distance.
An image from the scene shows a person attempting to extinguish the fire using a portable fire extinguisher while the car remained ablaze on the roadside. Despite the intensity of the fire, all individuals inside the vehicle managed to escape safely, and no human casualties have been reported.
Police stated that the fire is believed to have started after a stone falling from the roadside hillside hit the petrol tank, triggering the blaze. Authorities are expected to conduct further investigation into the exact cause of the incident.
The event has once again highlighted the dangers faced by commuters along hilly highways during the monsoon and rainy season, especially in areas vulnerable to rockfalls and landslides. Drivers traveling through the Mugling road section have been urged to remain cautious and follow safety advisories issued by authorities.
