Geneva, Switzerland - The 29th session of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development is currently underway in Geneva, bringing global policymakers, experts, and stakeholders together to deliberate on the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in advancing science, technology, and innovation.
This year’s session places a strong emphasis on how AI can be effectively leveraged to accelerate sustainable development, particularly in developing countries. Delegates are exploring ways to maximize the benefits of AI-driven innovation while addressing emerging risks such as digital inequality, ethical concerns, and governance challenges.
A key focus of the discussions is supporting policymakers from the Global South in building inclusive and resilient technological ecosystems. Experts are highlighting the importance of capacity building, digital infrastructure development, and regulatory frameworks that ensure responsible and equitable use of AI technologies.
Participants are also examining how AI can contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including areas such as climate action, healthcare, education, and economic growth. The dialogue underscores the need for international cooperation to bridge technological gaps and promote knowledge sharing among nations.
As AI continues to reshape global economies and societies, the commission’s outcomes are expected to guide future policy directions and strengthen global partnerships aimed at inclusive digital transformation. FB_IMG_1776725108911-1776725323.jpg
