Shenzhen, China | July 31, 2026 - The 2026 Asia-Pacific Digital & Intelligent Economy Sustainable Development Innovation Week officially opened in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, bringing together policymakers, UN representatives, technology innovators, researchers, and business leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region to explore how digital intelligence and artificial intelligence can accelerate sustainable development.

The opening ceremony was held on 30 July 2026, with participation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) China, the China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges (CICETE), and a wide range of public and private sector partners.

In his opening remarks, UNDP China Resident Representative Stefan Liller called for a more inclusive and responsible digital intelligence economy, stressing that AI and emerging technologies should support human well-being, climate resilience, and equitable economic opportunities, particularly for developing countries in the Asia-Pacific.

The Innovation Week is focusing on several strategic themes:

  • Artificial intelligence for sustainable development

  • Green and low-carbon digital transformation

  • Intelligent manufacturing and industrial upgrading

  • Smart city governance

  • Digital infrastructure and connectivity

  • Cross-border innovation cooperation

Exhibition areas showcased advanced technologies such as 3D printing systems, intelligent logistics platforms, and drone delivery solutions, demonstrating how digital tools are increasingly being integrated into urban services, manufacturing, and environmental management.

The event also highlights the growing importance of Shenzhen as a global center for digital innovation, advanced manufacturing, and green technology development. Analysts note that the gathering aligns with China’s broader efforts to promote regional cooperation on digital economy governance, AI innovation, and sustainable growth ahead of a series of APEC 2026-related activities scheduled across the country.

Experts attending the forum emphasized that the Asia-Pacific region must ensure that the rapid expansion of AI is accompanied by strong governance frameworks, digital inclusion, cybersecurity safeguards, and climate-conscious infrastructure investment.

The Innovation Week is expected to continue with policy dialogues, thematic forums, technology exhibitions, and partnership discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration among governments, international organizations, research institutions, and the private sector on the future of the digital and intelligent economy for sustainable development.
