Light Rainfall Brings Brief Relief to Kathmandu Valley Amid Pre-Monsoon Transition

Kathmandu, March 24, 2026 - Parts of Kathmandu experienced light and intermittent rainfall on Tuesday, offering temporary relief from rising temperatures and dust levels as the valley gradually enters the pre-monsoon season.
According to general weather patterns observed during late March in Nepal, such scattered showers are typical during this transitional period. Moisture-bearing winds combined with increasing daytime heat often trigger localized cloud formation, resulting in short spells of drizzle or light rain, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours.
Meteorological trends suggest that temperatures in the valley are currently ranging between 20°C and 25°C, accompanied by growing humidity and partial cloud cover. While the rainfall remains light and unevenly distributed across different parts of the valley, it has contributed to a noticeable improvement in air quality and a slight drop in temperature.
Experts note that these early pre-monsoon showers play an important role in reducing airborne dust and pollutants, which tend to accumulate during dry winter months. However, the rainfall is not yet significant enough to impact water resources or agricultural planning in a meaningful way.
Weather conditions are expected to remain variable over the coming days, with alternating periods of sunshine and brief rain showers. Authorities have not issued any weather warnings, and no major disruptions have been reported so far.
As Kathmandu Valley continues to transition toward the monsoon season, residents are advised to stay prepared for sudden weather changes, including carrying rain protection during outdoor activities.
