Highway Disruption in Daunne: Rain-Induced Slippery Road Halts Traffic

Ecosphere News | Chitwan-Butwal Road Section
The Daunne section along the Narayanghat-Butwal road has been closed for two-way traffic following continuous rainfall that has rendered the road dangerously slippery and muddy.
According to field observations and the situation reflected in the image, multiple passenger buses and vehicles have been stranded along the muddy stretch, particularly on uphill sections where traction has significantly reduced. Vehicles are seen struggling to move, with some halted mid-route due to poor road conditions.
Recent reports indicate that persistent rainfall since Friday has severely affected this section, turning the under-construction and damaged road surface into a high-risk zone for transportation. Authorities have temporarily halted traffic to prevent accidents and ensure safety.
Police officials have noted that even when traffic is briefly allowed, vehicles often get stuck due to the muddy terrain, leading to long queues on both sides of the highway. The situation is further complicated by ongoing road expansion works, which make the surface more vulnerable during rainfall.
The Daunne area has long been identified as a critical bottleneck, frequently disrupted by rain-induced slipperiness. Authorities have urged travelers to avoid the route unless necessary and to seek updates before travel.
Impact and Concerns:
Complete halt of two-way traffic
Risk of accidents due to slippery slopes
Long queues and stranded passengers
Repeated disruptions linked to construction and poor drainage
Local authorities and road maintenance teams are working to clear mud and restore safe movement once weather conditions improve. However, continued rainfall may delay reopening.
