Global Experts Call for Stronger Climate Action at AIT’s Climate Change Seminar Series 2026

Bangkok - The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand hosted the Climate Change Seminar Series 2026, bringing together leading global experts, policymakers, and academics to discuss how international climate commitments can be effectively translated into practical action.
Organized by AIT’s Faculty of Climate Change and Sustainability (FCCS), the seminar series convened specialists from major international institutions, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), along with researchers from universities around the world.
Bridging the Gap Between Commitments and Action
The discussions focused on one of the most pressing global challenges: turning climate pledges into tangible results. Experts emphasized that while many countries have announced ambitious climate targets, implementation remains uneven due to financial, technological, and institutional barriers.
Participants highlighted the importance of coordinated action between governments, financial institutions, scientific communities, and civil society to accelerate climate solutions.
Key Themes of the Seminar
The seminar series explored several critical areas shaping the future of global climate action:
Energy Transition: Experts discussed pathways for shifting from fossil fuels to renewable energy systems while ensuring energy security and economic stability.
Nature-Based Solutions: Speakers highlighted the role of forests, wetlands, and ecosystems in absorbing carbon and strengthening climate resilience.
Climate Finance and Resilience: The need for stronger financial mechanisms to support climate adaptation and mitigation, particularly in vulnerable developing countries, was widely emphasized.
Food System Transformation: Discussions examined how agriculture and food systems can become more sustainable while addressing food security challenges.
Science Communication: Participants stressed the importance of effectively communicating climate science to policymakers and the public to foster informed decision-making.
A Platform for Global Climate Dialogue
The seminar series reinforced AIT’s role as an international hub for interdisciplinary collaboration on climate and sustainability issues. By bringing together global expertise and academic research, the institution aims to strengthen science-based dialogue and develop practical responses to climate change.
Experts at the event noted that achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will require stronger collaboration between nations, institutions, and communities.
As climate impacts intensify worldwide-from extreme weather events to ecosystem degradation-the discussions underscored the urgent need to translate policy commitments into real-world solutions.
The Climate Change Seminar Series 2026 concluded with a shared message among participants: meaningful climate progress depends not only on global agreements but also on practical, science-based implementation at national and local levels.
