Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has urged citizens not to be misled by misinformation and artificial content circulating on social media and certain sections of the mass media, stating that the government is closely monitoring such activities and bringing those responsible under the ambit of the law.
In a national address delivered ahead of the upcoming elections, Prime Minister Karki assured the public that the government would not tolerate impunity at any level. “No form of lawlessness will be encouraged by this government. We will not step back from taking action in accordance with the law,” she said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law during what she described as a historic moment for the country.
With national elections scheduled for Falgun 21, the Prime Minister called on all eligible voters to participate actively, describing voting not merely as a civic duty but as a decision that determines the future of individuals and their children. She appealed to citizens to prioritize voting and maintain peace and harmony throughout the electoral process.
The Prime Minister noted that Nepal has reached a significant turning point in its political journey. Referring to the post–Gen Z movement context as complex and sensitive, she expressed confidence that the electoral process would provide a democratic outlet and strengthen constitutional governance. She credited the resilience, patience, and cooperation of Nepali citizens for steering the country through a challenging transitional period.
Extending best wishes on the occasion of Holi (Fagu Purnima), which coincides with the election period, she highlighted the symbolic connection between the festival of colors and democratic participation. According to her, the spirit of unity, harmony, and diversity reflected in Holi should reinforce national solidarity during the electoral process.
Prime Minister Karki also thanked political parties, independent candidates, the Election Commission, security agencies, and civil servants for their roles in preparing for the polls within a short timeframe. She stated that all four national security bodies have mobilized resources to ensure a free, fair, and secure election. She further acknowledged the support of the President, provincial and local governments, friendly nations, and United Nations agencies for their material, financial, and technical assistance in election management.
Addressing international developments, the Prime Minister expressed concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly regarding Iran and the surrounding region. She assured that the Government of Nepal is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to safeguarding Nepali citizens residing abroad.
Concluding her address, Prime Minister Karki described her leadership during this critical period as a responsibility toward the nation. She reaffirmed her commitment to justice and integrity, noting that the country’s leadership will soon pass into the hands of representatives chosen by the people.
