Parking Arrangements for Maha Shivaratri Devotees Visiting Pashupatinath Temple

Kathmandu, Nepal - With the arrival of Maha Shivaratri, one of the most significant Hindu religious festivals, authorities have announced designated parking areas for the large number of devotees, pilgrims, and visitors expected at Pashupatinath Temple. The arrangements aim to manage traffic flow, ensure public safety, and support seamless darshan (worship) experiences on the auspicious day.
Designated Parking Zones
To minimize congestion around the sacred temple precincts and support efficient movement of pilgrims, the following parking locations have been assigned:
Sifal Ground: Allocated for vehicles of devotees, pass holders, and security personnel. This area will serve as a primary parking site given its proximity to major access routes.
Bhandarkhal / Treasury Office Premises: Reserved exclusively for pass-holder vehicles, ensuring those with official permissions can park closer to the temple corridor.
Tilganga Eye Hospital and Corridor Area: Designated for vehicles of pilgrims, devotees, and tourists. This site is expected to handle a high volume of general visitors.
Guhyeshwari-side Area: Allocated for pilgrims and devotees. The area across the Guhyeshwari corridor provides additional space to reduce traffic load near the main temple access.
Bankali Area: Reserved for essential operational vehicles including those of camp organizing institutions, fire brigade units, ambulances, drinking water services, and security personnel. This zone will support emergency services and festival logistics.
Gaushala Police Circle Premises: Held for pass-holder vehicles and government vehicles to ensure secure and orderly vehicle placement near law enforcement support.
Traffic and Safety Measures
Security agencies and festival organizers are coordinating closely to manage the large influx of pilgrims expected during the festival. Traffic officials have advised devotees to follow route guidance, use the designated parking zones, and allow sufficient time for darshan to avoid delays.
Authorities also urge visitors to be mindful of public safety protocols, especially in high-traffic zones around the temple. Emergency services and first aid facilities will be readily accessible throughout the festival area.
