The bus was returning after picking up the bride and was heading toward Sunkuda, Bajhang, carrying members of the wedding procession. The bride and groom were reported safe as they were traveling in a separate vehicle.

Among the injured, 25 are receiving treatment in Dadeldhura, four in Deulek of Bajhang, and five have been referred to Dhangadhi for advanced medical care. Health authorities have stated that several injured remain in serious condition.
Police have released the identities of the deceased, who include men, women, and minors from Bajhang and Baitadi districts, highlighting the devastating impact of the accident on multiple families and communities.
According to Police Inspector Baldev Badu, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Baitadi, preliminary investigations suggest that the bus went out of control, though the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. The bus driver, Birendra Budha, has been taken into police custody for questioning.
The incident once again raises serious concerns about road safety in Nepal’s hilly and mountainous regions, where narrow roads, night travel, overloading, and limited enforcement continue to pose major risks. Local residents and civil society members have called for stronger safety regulations, improved road infrastructure, and stricter monitoring of passenger vehicles, especially during social events such as weddings.
Authorities have expressed condolences to the bereaved families, while rescue teams, health workers, and local administrations continue to support the injured and affected families.
