Kathmandu - Sahas Urja Limited (SUL), a public limited company actively engaged in Nepal’s hydropower sector, successfully convened its 12th Annual General Meeting (AGM) today, marking another milestone in its journey toward contributing to the country’s sustainable and balanced economic development through clean energy.
Established in Bhadra 2071 B.S., Sahas Urja Limited is driven by a collective of experienced entrepreneurs and professionals with a shared vision of modern enterprise, innovative development strategies, and sound management practices. Addressing shareholders and stakeholders at the AGM, the company reiterated its long-term commitment to creating superior value, strengthening corporate governance, and emerging as one of Nepal’s most trusted and admired energy companies.
A significant foundation of SUL’s hydropower journey lies in the strategic acquisition of Hydro Venture Pvt. Ltd. (HVPL). HVPL was originally established to develop, build, and operate hydropower projects and had been exclusively focused on the Solu Khola (Dudh Koshi) Hydroelectric Project. The project had already achieved critical milestones, including completion of feasibility studies, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), grid connection agreements, generation license from the Department of Electricity Development (DoED), and a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) on 25 February 2015.
Recognizing the strategic importance of unified project ownership and efficient execution, Sahas Urja Limited fully acquired HVPL, with official endorsement from the Company Registrar’s Office on 12 March 2017. Subsequently, the transfer of all relevant licenses from HVPL to SUL was completed on 2074/01/29 B.S., consolidating the project under Sahas Urja’s leadership. Since then, the Solu Khola (Dudh Koshi) Hydroelectric Project has been developed directly by SUL, reflecting its growing technical and managerial capacity in Nepal’s hydropower sector.
At the AGM, company representatives emphasized that Sahas Urja’s broader objectives go beyond individual projects. These include identifying technically and economically feasible hydropower projects, developing, building, and operating power plants, promoting green energy and entrepreneurship, and mobilizing bilateral and multilateral expertise and investment. The company also underscored its role in helping address long-standing bottlenecks in Nepal’s power sector, particularly those related to project development, financing, and coordination.
Guided by a clear vision and mission, SUL highlighted its focus on applying innovative engineering solutions, encouraging people’s participation, and maximizing the value of resources-time, technology, and competence. Ethical conduct remains central to the company’s operations, with strong adherence to principles of good governance, integrity, accountability, respect for the law, and social responsibility.
As Nepal pursues energy security and a transition toward low-carbon development, the proceedings of Sahas Urja Limited’s 12th AGM reflected the growing role of private-sector hydropower developers in supporting national energy goals. For stakeholders and observers of Nepal’s energy landscape, Sahas Urja’s progress signals continued momentum toward a more resilient, sustainable, and self-reliant electricity sector.
