Belém, Brazil - As COP30 drew to a close, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) concluded two weeks of engagements in Belém with new partnerships, strategic frameworks, and renewed commitments to scale climate finance across developing nations.
This year’s summit, referred to by many stakeholders as an “implementation COP,” coincided with the 10-year milestone of GCF operations since its first climate action investments. Marking the occasion, GCF launched its Impact Report, which outlines the scale, reach, and progress of its financing to date while setting a forward-looking roadmap for the decade ahead.
14 Countries Plan Investment Platforms with GCF
In collaboration with Brazil’s Ministry of Finance, GCF co-hosted the High-level Event on Country and Regional Platforms, bringing together governments, development institutions, and private sector actors. During the event, 14 countries announced plans to develop investment platforms in partnership with GCF to align international funding streams with national climate priorities.
Strengthened Climate Finance Partnerships
GCF also formalized and expanded strategic partnerships aimed at mobilizing greater capital for climate solutions in emerging markets. Notable among these was a collaboration with Just Climate to expand private-sector financing for climate projects.
In coordination with other multilateral climate funds-including the Global Environment Facility (GEF), Climate Investment Funds (CIF), and Adaptation Fund-GCF launched the first Multilateral Climate Funds Joint Results Report. The joint publication aligns reporting indicators across mitigation, adaptation, nature, and energy, aiming to enhance transparency, coherence, and shared learning across institutions.
Locally Led Climate Action Framework Released
A key highlight of COP30 for GCF was the launch of its Locally Led Climate Action Framework and Guidance. The initiative centers local leadership in climate finance design and implementation, offering a set of aligned practices for GCF and its partners to expand community-driven climate responses.
Delegates Safely Evacuated After Venue Fire
In a post-event update, GCF confirmed that its delegation in Belém safely evacuated after a fire incident at the venue on Thursday. No injuries were reported among the team.
Looking Ahead
GCF expressed gratitude to stakeholders and delegates who engaged throughout COP30 and reaffirmed its commitment to scaling climate finance globally. As the organization enters its second decade of operations, it aims to strengthen collaboration, accelerate investment flows, and support countries in translating climate commitments into implementation.
