The National Security Council has decided to recommend the deployment of the Nepal Army to ensure security during the upcoming general elections scheduled for Falgun 21. The recommendation will be forwarded to the Council of Ministers for approval.
According to Suman Raj Aryal, Member-Secretary of the National Security Council and Secretary at the Ministry of Defense, the decision was made during a council meeting held on Wednesday afternoon. Aryal said the move aims to create a free, fair, and fearless environment for the election of members to the House of Representatives.
The meeting also reviewed potential security challenges surrounding the elections and discussed strategic measures the government may need to adopt in the coming weeks.
The council session comes at a time when questions have been raised regarding the certainty of elections being held on schedule. Doubts intensified following recent tensions in Simara, where clashes broke out between CPN-UML cadres and Generation Z youths on Wednesday, drawing widespread public commentary and concern.
While some observers argue that the incident signals a worrying pre-election atmosphere, officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs have urged citizens not to generalize or assume that the election timeline is at risk based on a single event.
The government is expected to move forward with additional security coordination among national forces as preparations advance closer to polling day.
