With the paddy plantation season recently completed, farmers in Jahada Rural Municipality of Morang are now fully engaged in post-transplantation work-primarily weeding (godhmel) and applying fertilizers to protect and nourish their crops.
These tasks are essential at this stage of the rice-growing cycle, as unchecked weeds can hinder the healthy growth of paddy. The green fields of Jahada have come alive with farmers working tirelessly to ensure a successful harvest.
However, their efforts are being tested once again by recurring fertilizer shortages. Many local farmers have expressed concern over limited access to chemical fertilizers, a challenge that persists across Nepal each year. Despite timely efforts in the field, the lack of adequate fertilizer supply threatens to undermine their hard work.
Agricultural experts emphasize that early-stage care-such as proper weeding and fertilization-can significantly boost rice yields. Morang, a major rice-producing district, has seen increased output in recent years due to improved practices and community mobilization.
As monsoon rains continue to support crop growth, the dedication of Jahada’s farmers reflects both the resilience and vulnerability of Nepal’s agrarian communities. Without timely policy intervention and reliable input supply, the gains made on the ground may not translate into expected harvest outcomes.
