Kathmandu - Nepal remains under the influence of monsoon winds as the monsoon low-pressure line has shifted slightly northward, nearing western Nepal. This shift has resulted in widespread cloudy conditions and varying precipitation across the country, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
Rainfall and Thunderstorms Expected Across Provinces
Many parts of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim Provinces are likely to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Some areas in other regions will also witness similar weather patterns. The department has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in certain areas of Sudurpashchim Province and isolated locations in the hilly regions of other provinces.
Snowfall in High-Hill and Mountainous Regions
In addition to rainfall, light to moderate snowfall is anticipated in select areas of the high-hill and mountainous regions, further intensifying the impact of the ongoing monsoon.
Nighttime Weather Outlook
The weather is expected to remain predominantly cloudy tonight, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms likely in hilly regions of Koshi, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim Provinces. Heavy rainfall may occur in one or two locations across Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpashchim Provinces. Similarly, light to moderate snowfall is anticipated in the mountainous areas.
Precautions Advised
The department has urged the public to remain cautious about potential landslides, flash floods, and riverbank erosion, especially in regions prone to heavy rainfall. Travelers to high-altitude areas are also advised to prepare for possible snowfall and challenging conditions.
As the monsoon continues to impact the nation, it is crucial for residents and authorities to stay alert and monitor updates to ensure safety and preparedness.
