Rupandehi, Nepal – May 12, 2025:
Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, is alive with cultural vibrancy and spiritual grandeur as it marks the 2569th Buddha Jayanti and Lumbini Day. The highlight of the celebrations was the ceremonial Shobha Kalash Yatra, which began at Gate No. 5 of Lumbini and traversed iconic landmarks, including the Mayadevi Temple, the Peace Lamp, and the Central Canal, before culminating at the International Buddhist Conference Center.
The Kalash Yatra showcased Nepal's rich cultural diversity with captivating presentations from various ethnic communities. Thousands of devotees and visitors, both domestic and international, participated in the procession, emphasizing unity in diversity—a core value of Lord Buddha’s teachings.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to inaugurate the formal program later in the day at the International Buddhist Conference Center. The event will commence after 9 a.m., featuring discourses, prayers, and cultural performances dedicated to Buddha's message of peace and harmony.
Lumbini has undergone an extraordinary transformation for this occasion. The sacred site has been adorned with vibrant decorations, giving it the appearance of a bride. The Lumbini Development Trust spearheaded a dedicated cleanliness campaign in preparation, leaving the area pristine and welcoming for the influx of pilgrims and visitors.
The Buddha Jayanti celebrations span three days, filled with activities that honor Buddha’s life and teachings. Events include prayer meetings, exhibitions, and cultural programs, all aimed at promoting peace and fostering a deeper understanding of Buddhist philosophy.
This year’s celebrations hold particular significance, as they emphasize sustainable tourism and environmental conservation in line with global goals for development and preservation. Lumbini's festivities not only celebrate Buddha’s teachings but also draw attention to the importance of protecting the sacred environment of his birthplace.
As Lumbini lights up with reverence and joy, the world is reminded once again of Lord Buddha’s timeless message—peace begins from within, and it is a gift meant to be shared with all.
