Six Villages Declared 'Safe Villages' in Nepal, Protecting Livestock from Predators

Chitwan, 8 January 2025 - In a remarkable milestone for wildlife conservation and community safety, six villages in the buffer zones of Chitwan National Park and Parsa National Park in Nepal have been officially declared 'Safe Villages.' This achievement, facilitated by the installation of over 713 predator-proof corrals, has significantly reduced the risk of livestock predation by leopards and tigers, ensuring the safety of goats and other valuable livestock.

This initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of local communities, conservation partners, and the dedicated support of KFW (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau) and IUCN. By addressing human-wildlife conflicts, these predator-proof enclosures are fostering a harmonious coexistence between people and wildlife, setting an exemplary model for conservation efforts worldwide.
