New Haven, Connecticut, USA - October 8, 2026: The Forest School at the Yale School of the Environment (YSE) is offering a three-day intensive short course focused on wildlife ecology, conservation and monitoring, providing participants with practical knowledge and applied approaches to understanding and managing wildlife.
The course, titled “Introduction to Wildlife Ecology, Conservation, and Monitoring,” will be held at Yale-Myers Forest Camp in Eastford, Connecticut, from October 22 to 24, 2026. Yale-Myers Forest is a major educational and research resource of the Yale School of the Environment, covering approximately 7,840 acres and hosting students, researchers and professional training activities.
According to the course announcement, the programme will provide a comprehensive overview of key issues in wildlife ecology, conservation and management, while linking these topics with relevant wildlife-monitoring approaches. Participants will examine case studies from California and across North America, with an emphasis on hands-on, applied and practical learning.
The training is designed particularly for forestry and environmental professionals, offering an opportunity to strengthen understanding of wildlife-related challenges that may arise throughout their careers. Participants will also have opportunities for one-to-one meetings with the instructor to discuss individual projects.
The course instructor is Brett Furnas, PhD, Director of the Science Support Unit at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The three-day programme is scheduled as follows:
Thursday, October 22: 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Friday, October 23: 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Saturday, October 24: 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
The training reflects The Forest School’s broader focus on connecting people, forests and forestry for a sustainable future, including experiential learning and professional training for forest and environmental practitioners.
Registration: Interested participants can register through the Yale School of the Environment’s registration link.
For environmental professionals, conservation practitioners and wildlife managers, such practical training can help strengthen the scientific basis for wildlife monitoring, conservation planning and evidence-based natural resource management.
