Training Focuses on Strengthening Monitoring and Enforcement for Fair and Ethical Recruitment in Nepal

Kathmandu, July 21 - A two-day training programme on the Role of Monitoring, Supervision and Enforcement for Fair and Ethical Recruitment concluded at Hotel Himalaya, bringing together stakeholders to strengthen oversight mechanisms in Nepal's foreign employment sector.
According to the organisers, the programme, held on 20-21 July, covered key areas including the risks and principles of fair recruitment, regulatory frameworks and licensing, monitoring throughout the recruitment cycle, detection of unethical practices, complaint handling, enforcement measures, remedial actions, and practical tools for improved supervision. The training also emphasized strengthening institutional coordination and developing action plans to enhance regulatory effectiveness.
The event was organized with the support of the Government of Nepal and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The agenda indicates that the programme aimed to enhance the capacity of institutions responsible for monitoring recruitment agencies and safeguarding the rights of migrant workers.
Fair and ethical recruitment has become an increasingly important priority for Nepal, where thousands of citizens seek employment abroad each year. Strengthening monitoring, supervision and enforcement is considered essential to reducing fraudulent recruitment practices, preventing excessive recruitment fees, and ensuring that migrant workers have access to safe, transparent and rights-based employment opportunities. These priorities are also aligned with international efforts to promote responsible labour migration and decent work.
