Kathmandu | Ecosphere News
The My Climate Risk Interdisciplinary Learning Group (MCRILG) has announced its next online learning session, focusing on how advances in impact-based weather forecasting can strengthen climate services for disaster risk management and climate adaptation.
Scheduled for 13 July 2026 from 13:00 to 14:00 (GMT+1), the session will feature Joseph Daron, a climate scientist affiliated with the UK Met Office and the University of Bristol.
According to the event announcement, Dr. Daron will discuss recent advances in impact-based forecasting and warning systems, examining how these approaches can improve climate services that support risk management and long-term adaptation planning. The session will also reflect on lessons learned from international efforts to enhance climate risk communication and evidence-based decision-making.
A key focus of the discussion will be the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in building resilience to climate-related hazards. By integrating expertise from climate science, risk assessment, policy, and local decision-making, such approaches aim to help communities better prepare for and respond to the growing impacts of climate change.
Dr. Daron also serves as a Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change> Seventh Assessment Report (AR7), where he contributes to work on climate information and climate services.
The session is expected to bring together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and other stakeholders interested in advancing climate risk knowledge and strengthening resilience through improved forecasting and communication.
Further details about the event are available through the event information page: My Climate Risk Interdisciplinary Learning Group session information.
