Severe Hailstorm Blankets Denver Metro Area, Disrupting Travel and Daily Life

Kathmandu, June 3, 2026 - A powerful thunderstorm swept across the Denver metropolitan area in the United States on June 1, bringing intense hail, heavy rainfall, strong winds, and localized flooding that disrupted transportation and affected thousands of residents.
The storm produced hailstones ranging from quarter-size to golf-ball size in several areas. In some neighborhoods, hail accumulated to depths of several inches, prompting local authorities and road maintenance crews to deploy snowplows and other equipment to clear streets and major traffic routes. Residents described scenes that resembled winter snowstorms rather than a summer weather event.
According to local media and weather authorities, the hailstorm lasted between 10 and 20 minutes in many locations but was intense enough to damage vehicles, gardens, crops, and property. Drivers were forced to seek shelter under bridges and overpasses as the storm moved across the region.
The severe weather system also generated flash flood warnings, reports of funnel clouds, and travel disruptions. Operations at Denver International Airport were temporarily affected, with ground stops and delays implemented as the storm passed through the area.
Meteorologists noted that the storm was fueled by strong atmospheric instability, which created powerful updrafts capable of producing large hail. Weather experts warned that additional thunderstorms could continue to affect parts of Colorado during the week.
The event highlights the growing challenges posed by extreme weather events, which can cause significant economic losses, damage infrastructure, and disrupt daily life. Scientists continue to study how changing climate conditions may influence the frequency and intensity of severe storms in many regions around the world.
Local authorities urged residents to remain alert to weather advisories and take necessary precautions during future severe weather events.
