Kathmandu, Nepal - The Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment has opened the draft National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) 2026-2030 for public feedback, calling on citizens and stakeholders across Nepal to contribute their views and recommendations to shape the country’s future biodiversity agenda.
Prepared with support from biofin.org, undp.org, and thegef.org, the draft strategy reflects an extensive nationwide consultation process aimed at strengthening biodiversity conservation and sustainable environmental governance.
According to the information released, consultations reached 54 out of Nepal’s 77 districts and engaged more than 3,000 stakeholders. Participants included representatives from federal, provincial, and local governments, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, community-based organizations, conservation partners, private sector actors, persons with disabilities, academic institutions, and civil society organizations.
The consultation process has been described as inclusive, participatory, and consultative, emphasizing broad representation in developing the country’s biodiversity priorities for the coming five years.
The ministry has encouraged citizens and institutions to review the draft document and submit suggestions to ensure that Nepal’s biodiversity policies reflect diverse perspectives and local realities.
The draft NBSAP can be accessed through the Ministry’s public notice portal for review and feedback.
