Dolpa: In a significant step toward strengthening digital access in Nepal’s remote Himalayan region, Nepal Telecom has officially launched 4G mobile service in Kagkot, the administrative center of Chharka Tangsong Rural Municipality of Dolpa District. The expansion marks the arrival of high-speed mobile connectivity in Upper Dolpa for the first time.
According to Nepal Telecom spokesperson Dr. Kamal Lamichhane, the service was brought into operation by installing 4G equipment at a telecommunications tower located in Mukot at an altitude of approximately 4,200 meters above sea level and connecting it through microwave radio technology. With this latest expansion, Nepal Telecom’s 4G network has now reached 750 local levels across Nepal.
The newly introduced service is expected to improve communication access for local communities while also supporting trekkers and tourists travelling through the remote Himalayan corridor. Better digital connectivity is anticipated to contribute to administrative efficiency, strengthen security coordination, improve access to health and education services, and promote broader regional development opportunities.
Nepal Telecom has stated that efforts will continue to expand 4G coverage to remaining unconnected local levels, including Dolpo Buddha Rural Municipality, Shey Phoksundo Rural Municipality and Narpa Bhumi Rural Municipality in the near future, reinforcing the national commitment to reducing the digital divide and extending modern telecommunications infrastructure to even the country’s most geographically challenging areas.
