Everest Climbing Route Officially Opened for Spring 2026 Season

Solukhumbu, Nepal - The route for climbing the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, has officially been completed for the 2026 spring mountaineering season, paving the way for hundreds of climbers preparing for summit attempts in the coming weeks.
According to officials involved in the expedition management process, the route from Everest Base Camp to Camp II was prepared by a team of eight Icefall Doctors under the coordination of the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee. Above Camp II, the rope-fixing and route construction work up to the summit was carried out by the Expedition Operators Association of Nepal (EOAN).
The experienced climbing team successfully reached the summit and completed the crucial rope-fixing mission, officially opening the route for this year’s Everest expeditions. Reports stated that the summit team included renowned climbers Mingma Temba Sherpa, Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, and Dendi Sherpa.
Seasonal rope-fixing on Everest is considered one of the most important preparations for Himalayan expeditions, as climbers rely on these fixed ropes while ascending through the mountain’s most dangerous sections. This year’s work faced additional challenges after the traditional route through the Khumbu Icefall became blocked earlier in the season, creating delays in route preparation.
Following the reopening of the Khumbu Icefall route by the Icefall Doctors, experienced high-altitude climbers continued route construction above Camp II and ultimately completed the rope installation to the summit.
With the climbing route now officially open, expedition teams are expected to begin summit pushes as soon as weather conditions become favorable. Nepal has already issued a record 492 climbing permits for Everest this season, while government royalty collections from Everest expeditions alone have reportedly exceeded NPR 1 billion.
The spring Everest season remains one of Nepal’s most important tourism and adventure-mountaineering activities, drawing climbers, guides, and support teams from around the world each year.
