U.S. Assistant Secretary Paul Kapur Concludes Nepal Visit, Emphasizes Investment and Cultural Partnership

Kathmandu, April 22 - Paul Kapur, Assistant Secretary of the United States, has concluded a high-level visit to Nepal, marking a renewed push to deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic and technological sectors.
During his visit, Kapur held key discussions with senior Nepali leaders including Rabi Lamichhane, Shishir Khanal, and Swarnim Wagle. The meetings focused on strengthening the long-standing U.S.-Nepal partnership, with particular emphasis on expanding commercial ties and enhancing mutual economic opportunities.
A significant part of the discussions revolved around Nepal’s participation in the upcoming SelectUSA Investment Summit, where Kapur shared insights on potential U.S. investment avenues. He encouraged Nepal to position itself as an emerging destination for foreign direct investment, especially in sectors such as information technology and innovation-driven industries.
In a move that reflects growing confidence in Nepal’s digital economy, Kapur also convened interactions between U.S. and Nepali private sector stakeholders. These engagements explored collaboration opportunities within Nepal’s rapidly evolving tech sector, which has been gaining attention for its young workforce and expanding startup ecosystem.
Beyond economic diplomacy, the visit also highlighted cultural cooperation. Kapur visited iconic heritage sites including Boudhanath Stupa and Patan Durbar Square, both recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These monuments have benefited from preservation support through the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation, reflecting continued U.S. engagement in safeguarding Nepal’s rich cultural heritage.
The visit underscores a balanced approach in U.S.-Nepal relations-combining economic collaboration with cultural preservation-at a time when Nepal is seeking to diversify its international partnerships and attract sustainable investment.
