Kathmandu, April 16, 2026 - Nepal Economic Forum, in collaboration with the Australian Embassy Nepal, hosted a #NEFtalk titled “Education and Migration: The Nepal-Australia Connection”, focusing on the growing dynamics of student mobility and educational cooperation between Nepal and Australia.
Delivering the keynote address, Simon Ernst highlighted the deepening education partnership between the two countries. He emphasized how evolving academic collaborations and student exchanges are not only expanding opportunities for Nepali students but also strengthening bilateral ties.
During the session, Salina Kafle presented recent data on Nepali student migration trends to Australia. Her presentation outlined shifting patterns in student flows, raising important considerations about access, quality of education, and long-term socioeconomic impacts for Nepal.
The event also featured a panel discussion moderated by Sujeev Shakya, with panelists Amina Singh, Anushka Shrestha, and Ram Prasad Ghimire. The panel examined key issues including education system alignment, migration policies, and the role of returnee graduates in contributing to Nepal’s development.
Speakers collectively underscored the need to strengthen Nepal–Australia education linkages, improve student outcomes, and create clearer pathways connecting education to employment. The discussion also highlighted the importance of encouraging skilled returnees to reintegrate into Nepal’s economy, leveraging their international experience for national growth.
The event concluded with a shared commitment among stakeholders to enhance collaboration, ensure better support systems for students, and maximize the developmental benefits of international education and migration.
