Together accounting for a significant share of global greenhouse gas emissions, both nations are expanding clean energy at scale while simultaneously maintaining a cautious approach that prioritizes economic stability and energy security.
Recent developments indicate that China’s emissions growth may be stabilizing, with signs of a potential peak approaching. The country continues to dominate global renewable energy deployment, particularly in solar, wind, and electric mobility. However, its latest policy frameworks allow for moderate emissions growth in the near term, and coal remains a critical pillar of industrial and energy systems.
India, on the other hand, has announced updated climate targets aiming for a substantial reduction in emissions intensity and a significant increase in non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2035. While renewable energy expansion is accelerating, coal continues to dominate the country’s energy mix, and overall emissions are still rising, albeit at a slower pace.
