Mid-West University Validates New Climate Change and Climate Data Analysis Course

Lalitpur, Nepal - September 29, 2026: Mid-West University (MU) conducted a Course Validation Workshop on September 28, 2026, to review and validate a newly developed course titled “Climate Change, Climate Data Analysis and Application” under the M.Sc. Natural Resource Management (NRM I312) programme at the Graduate School of Science and Technology.
The workshop brought together academic experts, practitioners and key stakeholders to examine the proposed course content and structure and provide recommendations for strengthening its academic relevance and practical application.
The course has been developed under the CLASSIK Project (Promoting CLimAte ReSilient and Socially Inclusive Water Management in the Lower Karnali Watershed Region, Nepal). It aims to provide students with a stronger understanding of climate systems, climate change and its impacts, while developing practical skills to work with climate information and data.
A key focus of the course is hands-on climate data analysis, including climate data acquisition and processing, statistical analysis, data visualization and the use of analytical tools. Through these components, students are expected to develop the ability to analyse and interpret climate data and apply climate information to evidence-based decision-making and natural resource management.
The course validation process is intended to help ensure that the curriculum responds to the growing need for climate data literacy and analytical capacity among students and future natural resource management professionals, particularly as climate variability and climate-related risks increasingly affect ecosystems, water resources and communities.
The organizers expressed their appreciation to all academic experts, practitioners and stakeholders who participated in the workshop and contributed feedback toward further strengthening the course.
The initiative represents an effort to integrate climate science, data analysis and practical natural resource management within postgraduate education, supporting the development of skills needed for more informed and climate-responsive decision-making in Nepal.
